Tips for Keeping Restrooms Clean
|July 23, 2019
It’s no secret that restrooms can take a major beating throughout the day. Between bathroom use, hand washing, wet floors, garbage, and more, there’s no shortage of ways we can find an unclean bathroom in need of serious attention by the end of each work day. As with many things, the best way to keep your bathroom space clean is by small and consistent cleaning efforts instead of letting it spiral out of control before trying to wrangle it back in order. Plus, nothing sours your impression of a business more than a gross bathroom, so here are a few tips to keep your lavatories as clean as the rest of your business.
Clean regularly
Even just two quick five-minute trips into the bathroom for a speed cleaning can make a big impact by the end of the day. The most common tasks that need the most frequent attention are wiping wet and soapy counters off, and disposing of any paper towels that may have missed the garbage bins. Make it a habit to stick your head in once mid-morning and once mid-afternoon, and you’ll notice a much more pleasant environment for your clients and associates to enjoy.
Garbage access
The more access people have to garbage cans, the less they’ll be tempted to toss things on your floor or flush products that shouldn’t be flushed. Particularly in women’s bathrooms, we recommend placing mini-receptacles in each stall, and then all bathrooms should have a trash can near each paper towel dispenser. Although one should be enough, the easier you can make it for people to do the right thing, the less you’ll have to fix it when they don’t.
Clean floors
Floors are often the biggest victim of a bathroom’s uncleanliness. It’s not always possible to attend to floors in the middle of the day, and leaving them wet during high traffic times is a safety risk, and will often create more mud instead of making anything more clean. However mopping should definitely be a part of every business’s closing tasks every single day. Bathroom floors can be covered in water, soap, and other unpleasant substances, so cleaning them regularly prevents problems from really adding up. The good news is it can be done very quickly, and then every morning you’ll be able to start the day on your business’s best foot.
If your bathroom doesn’t have stalls and is just a single lockable room, you may even want to consider adding some soothing decor and small amenities like mints. By keeping any bathroom clean and organized you are sure to offer your clients and associates a clean and pleasant space to use to freshen up, and leave them with the best possible impression of your business.
