More People Are Outdoors This Summer So Use These Tips To Keep Your Floors Clean
|July 30, 2021
It’s safe to assume that more people will be outdoors this summer, and every summer for the rest of our lives, than there were in the summer of 2020. The reason for this is obvious – the pandemic. Halfway through this summer, it can even be said that even more people are outdoors than there were in the summer of 2019!
Why? After spending practically an entire summer in quarantine, limited from going to most public places, with many public parks, beaches, and other outdoor areas closed, and being generally discouraged from going outside, people miss being outside and don’t take it for granted. This does mean, though, that your floors will see a lot more foot traffic, and that increases the need for floor maintenance. Use these tips to keep your floors clean as more people are outdoors this summer:
Prevent Cleaning > Cleaning
They say that the best defense is a good offense. So, if the best defense against floor contamination and/or damage is a good offense, how can you go on the offensive? A layer of protection.
It’s safe to assume pressuring or demanding guests, visitors, patrons, or whoever steps on your floors to wear booties (shoe covers) isn’t an option, so consider commercial floor runners, inside and outside door mats, and other related floor-protective covers. Especially starting from just inside high-traffic entrances and exits, and extending inside far enough to absorb the loosest contaminants that are trekked in, floor runners and mats help collect dirt and debris and protect against the heavy wear and tear of foot traffic.
Measure Foot Traffic & Make an Appropriate Schedule
Drafting a floor maintenance plan, creating an effective checklist, and setting an ideal schedule is very important to keep your floors clean. It’s very hard to do all of that without getting an idea of your commercial property’s foot traffic data. That’s why it’s a good idea to monitor traffic of how many people come in and out, at what time, and using which entrances and exits. Knowing these things will enable you to tailor the best floor maintenance plan.
Upgrade Your Tools
Your floor maintenance tools – vacuum, buffer, mop, etc – may not be enough to handle the greater number of people who will come and go this summer. Even if the tools you have aren’t old or outdated, this past year has catalyzed the innovation of floor maintenance technology. An example: the latest floor buffers have capabilities beyond just buffering, including scrubbing, stripping, waxing, polishing, and deep cleaning.
Invest in Professional Care
Of course, you may not have the time, tools, or experience to effectively maintain clean floors. If that’s the case, contracting a professional floor maintenance services provider is a GREAT investment. Not only will you guarantee clean floors that will last longer, you’ll save time and energy, and this will allow you to capitalize on this summer’s distinct increase in outdoor activity!
